I was listening to one of the Harry Potter audio books recently and thought it’d be funny if they made a set for universes beyond. I came up with two cards. Thought it might be a fun challenge for people to come up with more if they wanted to.
The Boy Who Lived
Legendary Creature - Human Wizard
Cloak - : The Boy Who Lived and up to 2 other creatures you control phase out until the beginning of your next upkeep.
Love - : Exile The Boy Who Lived, return it to the battlefield at the beginning of your next upkeep.
Creatures you control gain hexproof and indestructible until the end of your turn.
Partner with Ron & Hermione

The Dark Lord
Legendary Creature - Human Wizard
Deathtouch Vigilance Haste
The Dark Lord has Indestructible and Ward as long as you control a Horcrux.
When The Dark Lord Enters it deals damage equal to its power to target creature.
Whenever a creature dealt damage by The Dark Lord dies create a Horcrux token.
- The Dark Lord deals damage equal to its power to target creature.
The Dark Lord gets +1/+1 for each Horcrux you control.
1/1
Horcrux
Artifact
You can only have up to 6 Horcux tokens on the battlefield at once.
: Sacrifice Horcrux. Any player may activate this ability.

And this one I think is kind of all over the place, might do a more refined and concentrated design soon. Inspired by Frodo, Sauron's Bane
Harry Potter, The Boy Who Lived 1W Creature- human citizen WU Harry Potter becomes a 1/2 human with skulk RWU Harry Potter becomes a 2/3 human wizard with Renown 1. When Harry Potter becomes renowned, you may pay 1RWU. If you do, Harry Potter gains flying and first strike. 1/1

Two questions:
A) On the Harry card, you mention Ron & Hermione. Have you made cards for them?
B) Would any artefacts that are Horcruxes, such as the diadem or cup, have the Horcrux subtype?

Im thinking about making some cards to create my own Universes Beyond commander decks that I could proxy.
I have tweaked the Harry card so that it reads:
The Boy Who Lived
Legendary Creature - Human Wizard
: exile The Boy Who Lived and up to 1 other creature you control, return them to the battlefield at the beginning of your next endstep.
Sacrifice The Boy Who Lived: Creatures you control gain hexproof and indestructible until the beginning of your next endstep.

Ron & Hermione
Legendary Creature- Human Wizard
When Ron & Hermione Enters the battlefield look at the top 5 cards of your library, you may put an instant or sorcery card from among them into your hand. Put the rest on the bottom of your library in a random order.
2/3
This gives the option to make a 4 colour deck to play against a mono black Voldemort deck, but I was also thinking of a potential deck that would focus on the themes of the Ministry of magic in the latter part of the story. If I did find the time to design 4 decks, I would probably make Harry a mono white card and create a 4th deck, probably for Dumbeldore and the order on the Pheonix

Rincewind23 to answer your Horcrux question, I’m not sure. I Was leaning towards just having horcrux tokens, but I suppose the wording cluld change to “you may only control up to 6 Horcux permanents at any given time”. This way there could maybe be specific legendary Horcrux artifacts with different names that still have the subtype

I might draft some designs for possible Horcrux cards, but a few things to cover first. Would the Sword of gryffindor be an equipment as well as a horcrux? I think so, but not 100% what that would look like. Also, could creature horcruxes exist? Such as Nagini or Harry. Alternatively, we could go with tokens, but there are some problems there as well. First of all, the ": Sacrifice Horcrux. Any player may activate this ability." seems a little cheap, maybe an additional cost or restriction that retains the flavour? Secondly, there would need to be other ways to create Horcruxes, as it may be hard if voldy gets shut down.

The sword of Gryfindor never becomes a horcrux, so I don’t think so. I was thinking of a design for it but the more I thought about it the more I just thought the sword would just be Embercleave
Yeah I am not entirely sure on the Horcrux mechanics yet. I think you are right, the does seem a bit easy, but I am mainly designing the Harry Potter cards so far.
I think a Jeskai spell slinger and blink deck seems to work quite well, blink / flicker seems to work thematically for apparation. I’m thinking the legendary wizards can have prowess, but all have relatively low power and toughness.

So sorry, I haven't read the books for quite a while and completely misremembered. Jeskai certainly seems to fit for a Wizards/witches focused deck, but how would the Death-Eaters (presumably in different colours to the Hogwarts alined wizards) casting spells be represented?

Possibly with damaging the opponents permanents or life total

No problem :)
Again, not thought about that one too much yet. I like the idea of them having abilities, Magecraft would also work quite flavourfully

This is what I have so far:
The Boy Who Lived
Legendary Creature - Human Wizard
Prowess
Exile The Boy Who Lived and up to 1 other creature you control, return them to the battlefield at the beginning of your next endstep.
Sacrifice The Boy Who Lived: Creatures you control gain hexproof and indestructible until the end of your next turn.

Ron & Hermione
Legendary Creature- Human Wizard
Prowess
When Ron & Hermione Enters the battlefield reveal cards from the top of your library until you reveal an instant or sorcery. You may cast the revealed card this way without paying its mana cost if it has mana value 4 or less. If you do not cast the spell this way, put it into your hand. Put the rest of the revealed cards on the bottom of your library in a random order.
Partner with The Boy Who Lived
2/3
Ginny Weasley
Legendary Creature - Human Wizard
Haste, Prowess
Ginny Weasley deals damage equal to Ginny’s power to target creature or player
1/1
Hogwarts School Of Witchcraft & Wizardry
Legendary Land
Hogwarts enters tapped unless you control a legendary creature. Add one mana of any colour to your mana pool. If this mana is spent to cast a Wizard spell scry x, where x is that spells mana value.
Ron, Loyal Friend
Legendary Creature- Human Wizard
Prowess
Lieutenant - As long as you control your commander Ron and your commander get +2/+2 and have ward
1/1
Hermione, Smart Student
Legendary creature - human wizard
Flash, Prowess
Hermione costs less to cast for each spell on the stack.
Magecraft - Whenever you cast or copy an instant or sorcery draw a card.
When Hermione enters copy target instant or sorcery spell you control twice, you may choose new targets for the copies.

How about this for stupefy
Stupefy
Instant
Stupefy deals 2 damage to target creature. If the creature does not die this way, tap it. It doesn’t untap during it’s owners next untap step. ———————————————————————————————————— Let me know if you think this could be improved upon.

I like it but think thats quite expensive for essentially a Shock & a tapper. I think Stupefy could just be:
Stupefy
Instant
Tap target creature an opponent controls and put a stun counter on it.
Works flavourfuly as Stupify, considering they learn it in the fourth book, so the fact it would be quite cheap in terms of mana works well. I don’t think would ever kill anyone. A spell that could be red might be Expulso, as this creates an explosion
February 24, 2025 5:14 a.m.
Rincewind23 says... #18
I do feel like Stupefy would deal a small amount of damage, perhaps closer to one point than two. The reason I incorporated red into the design is the fact that it is an aggressive spell most commonly used in combat and red was the colour that best represented this use. Although after some consideration and a conversation with a friend, I do see that three mama might be a bit pricy for a relatively simple fourth year spell.
February 24, 2025 10:24 a.m.
Rincewind23 says... #19
Hold on, what if it was also removed from combat? A stunned creature would probably not be able to attack or block.
February 24, 2025 10:27 a.m.
Poly_raptor says... #20
It is used in combat, but I would argue that it is a defensive spell though, if that makes sense? And I don’t think it would ever kill anything, so the idea of damage to me seems a bit of a flavour miss due to it then killing 1/1s
I think the stun counter works well as Stupefy does wear off eventually, and while it has a stun counter on it is tapped.

You and the person I spoke to have me fully converted, go with your original idea.

Also, how about this for Protego (you don't have to bother listening to me by the way, I am just using this as an outlet for my ideas...)
Protego
Instant
Prevent all damage that would be dealt to target creature this turn. It gains hexproof until end of turn. You gain 3 life
February 24, 2025 11:37 a.m.
Rincewind23 says... #24
The only tweak I was thinking of is about boardwipes. Would Protego protect the user against spells that are harming large groups?
Rincewind23 says... #2
These are some of the first Mtg cards I designed, about a year ago.
Rubeus Hagrid, Groundskeeper 3RG Creature- giant human Beasts you control get +1/+1. Whenever a beast you control dies, Hagrid gets +2+1 until end of turn.
