Will Backlash Against Streaming Lead to a Resurgence of Cable and/or Physical Media?

Television, music, and internet streaming services are promoting themselves as the future of entertainment, ostensibly offering a massive selection of media for a low price, but a closer inspection of those services reveals that their focus is less on affordability, convenience, variety and more on exclusivity. Each streaming service offers certain items that the others do not offer, hoping to win the business of the consumers, and I imagine that some customers are becoming frustrated with that, with needing to pay for different services, with service being provided by a different company, and, thus, requiring a separate payment.

Therefore, I wonder if there shall eventually be a backlash against streaming services for their practice of keeping their own media to themselves and not sharing with others; why would customers wish to pay numerous separate entities for their entertainment when they can pay a single fee to their service provider, and add or remove television channels as they desire? Even better, why pay for a service that can, at any time, and for any reason, remove media from its library, thus rendering it unavailable, when they can pay a single one-time fee to have their own copy of the media, which they can then watch at any time with no additional expenses? I cannot speak for every consumer, but I plan to purchase physical discs for as long as physical discs are manufactured, and will remain with cable/satellite television for as long as companies offer such a service.

What does everyone else say about this? Will there eventually be a backlash against streaming services, due to their exclusive natures, and, if there is, will it lead to a resurgence of previous forms of media?

I don't think it will lead to a resurgence in those types of media but those types of media will always have their fans and stay around for the foreseeable future they might have to adapt to survive longterm

Are prices for them down? That's largely why they died.

Most people are either 1) chasing exclusives, 2) pirating everything, or 3) fine with only getting one service and losing out on others. That being the case, I don't think the false competition will be brought to an end any time soon, but it's a perfect example of how a variety of choices are not always good for the consumer.

I think there will be a few events where people will learn the value of actually owning physical copies of movies/games/etc. rather than “owning access”...the a-la-carte aspect of streaming is great, but you’ve gotta own the things you love.
