I know the current Australia brushfire season is the worst in living memory. Is there anything a Yank can do to help (except for "hope for rain", of course)? A reasonable charity maybe?

Shout-outs of course to Argy and StuBi ... hope you and everyone you know is suffering from nothing more than a smokey haze! :-/

clayperce Thanks man...we are doing it tough but recent rainfalls are helping. My Father has had to evacuate (Nowra, New South Wales)

One thing you can do is donate $20 to the RFS and score a D20 of this guy:

If anybody wants to they can donate to the General disaster relief fund (Red Cross).

Know that I have donated many times over the years to other countries: after 911, after Notre Dame caught fire, for the California fires, to New Orleans after hurricane Katrina, etc.

StuBi and I are fine. Fires aren't really in the suburbs of Sydney where we live.

We have lots of friends and family doing it tough.

Thanks for your kind words, clayperce

If you're looking to donate, there are a couple of good charities listed here.

Donating directly to the Rural Fire Service is a big one, as well as the Red Cross (which Argy linked).

On top of this, there are groups that specifically deal with all of the injured animals (like RSPCA). The number of animals which have been killed as a result of the bush fires is approxiamtely half a billion (with a b) so any help in that department is also good.

I would recommend checking any of the groups that you're donating to as unforntuately in times of crisis a lot of scam charities have been known to pop up.
