Mercy Killing bites the bullet —Oct. 10, 2015
I started running Mercy Killing back when I had It That Betrays in the list. Over time, I found that It That Betrays, while fun, was very expensive, and I seldom wanted to cast it out of my graveyard. But I kept Mercy Killing in. I also had added Massacre Wurm at the time, so I still liked the card's interaction with that.
Every time I made a change to the deck, I always mulled over cutting Mercy Killing. I knew it was the worst kill spell in the deck, but it was also my favorite, since it had applications with my own dudes and it got around indestructible. It nearly got cut many times, but my love for the card led me to cut something else instead.
But times are a-changing. Specifically, I'm now looking to convert my mono-green Eldrazi deck to a Karona deck so I can run the devoid Eldrazi from BFZ. This opens up a new slot for Mercy Killing: a slot in Karona alongside It That Betrays. Now that I see that opportunity to continue playing my favorite kill spell of all time, I can finally justify cutting it from Karador.
So long, Mercy Killing. You will be missed.
In its place comes Carrion Feeder. I had a foil from Marchesa, who I decided to take apart because she felt like Karador, but slightly douchier. I've had it waiting in the wings for ages, but I could never find the space to put it in until now. So far, it's looked a lot prettier than the Spanish Mercy Killing, and the extra sac outlet and win condition is shaping up to be a great addition.
In the interim, I also got a foil []Terramorphic Expanse]]. It's not a TSP foil, but it's not like the card has an alternate art, anyway.
