Hello tappedouters, So as you may or may not know, the community set is finally (after 2 years) coming close to being done. We have few more challenges for uncommons and then we have the commons to do.
The community set design team has always intended to have the community design most or all of the cards in the set so that people feel connected and invested in the set. This was true for the mythics, rares and uncommons. We did not originally have a clear vision of how the commons would be designed. The original members of the design team determined that the design team would create the commons. However as the design team has evolved, we decided that this idea was not in the true spirit of a community set.
So how are we going to do it? Well we are breaking the regular design team into leaders of shards. With squire1 over Ulgris (BUG), $ªmHεiπ over Irindu (URG), Xander574 over Morglen (WBG) and mistergreen527 over Sorok (RWU). The last shard (Chavest RBW) will be detailed later. Each design team member will be building a small subteam of community members to work with in designing the commons. This team will be provided a skeleton and will likely meet online regularly. The meeting schedule will be up to the lead design team member to figure out with the subgroup. This is par for the course since the design team has met every week for two years now.
How do you get involved? Well if you are interested in being involved in this process and would like to be a designer of commons in one of the subgroups, its pretty easy. All you have to do is comment below with your top 2 choices for shards to work on. All entrants must be in by May 30th 2012. The following week we will let people know their assignments and put you in contact with the lead design member. Please only volunteer if you have the time to spend. It is a hard and laborious process that you need to be dedicated to. We are looking for about 4-5 people per shard, so if we get too many we will have to narrow them down.

I'd love to participate. My top two choices would be Ulgris and Sorok. I've been involved with this set since the beginning and thus far have cards (in some cases multiple cards) in every shard except Irindu (though not for the lack of trying, I just can't seem to get anything to stick in that shard).

If possible, I would like to proofread all the cards, possibly with the help of mafteechr and fix all the syntax errors when all is said and done.

I would love to help with Ulgris and Morglen...though the majority of ideas I have would fit the rare and mythic rare segment, I still have tons of ideas going through my head

I'd join, but I have mid-year exams over the next 2 weeks. After that I am fine to start :)
Also, I have no shard preferance. I've had a hand in designing them all :)

How much time would you estimate would be needed? I wouldn't mind helping, I just want to make sure first that I would have enough time before I make any commitments.

@metalmagic - I am glad that you are thinking about that. I would say that I spend about 5 hours a week at least on this project. How many weeks? Not sure. Depends on your team. I would say a month or two.

@Vman Vampires no, I think we should all be tired of them after the last two sets. Demons are in Chevest (RWB). and we are not designing mythics now anyway

no it is not done. it will be done differently, maybe even in the way that we have done the rest of the challenges. It is not being done this way because we have 4 design team members and we can't assign one person to oversee two shards. It is too much

Alright, that sounds doable as of now. I'm in the process of attaining one of those fabled 'girlfriends,' so hopefully that won't throw things off. I'll know in a couple days if I'll be able to help. Thanks for the info, squire1 !

Hey, I'd really love to work with this project, I've designed a good number of Magic cards already, so I have some practice. I'd prefer to work with Morglen or Sorok.
I know someone who might be able to make some art for the cards, so I'll get back to you guys on that, too.
I can't wait to see the finished set!

Just thought I'd come back and say I wouldn't mind working on the RUG shard, either. The "Flow" mechanic really seems like something I could get behind and build up.

Irindu or sorok sound good to me , or as a 3rd choice either of the others would be fine.
Looking at changing jobs though so if that goes through it may limit my availability.

We want to thank everyone that volunteered! We wish we could utilize everyone, but because of the difficulty in having large groups of people meet online on a regular basis, we had to limit the size of each team. Here are the teams that have been formed:
Team Irindu: $ªmHεiπ (Team Captain), hubatish, Jarrod_0067, and Yourman.
Team Morglen: Xander574 (Team Captain), elbenji, STG, and zandl.
Team Sorok: mistergreen527 (Team Captain), DeckBuilder345, gamerboy6000, and IronHead.
Team Ulgris: squire1 (Team Captain), Carn13, landot, and Leafs_suck
