The actual question was about trample compared to other evasion mechanics. Flying works before blockers, landwalk works before blockers, trample is the only one that still needs attention after blockers are declared, which makes it stand out among other forms of evasion. The fact that that's the case is more an unintended effect of exactly "How else would trample possibly work?" than that it's an intended choice in design.

It does not say that the way trample works is bugged.

I like them in online clients, but the copious amounts of shuffling do make me choose monocolored decks regularly :|

"Must be blocked if able" is a phrase they still do use. That one does not take all agency away from the opponent's combat math. Combat is a big part of winning in most games, and removing too much choice for interacting, people enjoy playing less. It's similar to why Landwalk and Shadow are used so sparingly as abilities.

I do wish brawl queues could be split in including and excluding the arena-only cards. I'm fine about Standard and Pioneer not using them, while Alchemy (which already is a format on Arena) and Historic do use them. I'm not sure about Timeless, I don't think I've played that.

I don't think it's wrong for the cards and effects to exist on the digital way of playing magic, it can be a fun way to test card designs and explore possibilities, and actually have the power to fix them if you break something without needing to wait 6 months for a new ban announcement. I just would like for the only commander- like format that I enjoy playing most, to be able to toggle the option of playing with or without digital-only cards and rebalances, because if you are mostly used to play paper magic, the effects can appear extremely silly or overpowered, and make you go "Wait, WHAT does that card do?" And I can't opt out. In every other aspect of the game client, I think it's being dealt with just fine.

The Water Crystal states: one or more, then that many plus four. Anowon, the Ruin Thieffoil attacks and isn't blocked. Anowon triggers it's ability that triggers once per player taking damage: damaged player mills cards. How many cards? One for every point of combat damage. In the trigger, that's one number. That's the number modified by the Water Crystal, so four more than the damage taken by rogues in combat.

That's how it works, Anowon triggers once for every time a player is dealt combat damage by rogues. Because the amount it's variable, the amount it's worded to be variable. But it's one amount per trigger.
