Atony1400, value is always value :) I'm quite sure I can't, though... the action of discarding comes before the ":", which means that I have to discard it to pay for the cycle ability. The discard abilities, like that of Firefright Mage require the same of me, thus: if I activate the discard sbility of the mage, I will already have discarded the card by the time I want to pay for the cycle, which I can't, since you can't discard something that's not in your hand.
