Dauntless Survivor
Creature — Human Warrior
When Dauntless Survivor enters the battlefield, put a +1/+1 counter on target creature.

I guess it doesn't say 'it places counter on target creature'. I'd say not, then.
>Life v Scry
I generally prefer scry, with exception of decks that have synergy or desperate need for life, but they usually cost enough that I don't want to mess with them.
>Tapland
Yeah, there're only three possible casts on turn one. A bad habit of mine, I suppose. I could probably do with some more testing, there.

I don't understand your comment about Dauntless Survivor. An ETB effect doesn't count as a spell, does it?
Thank you for your extensive commments on your deck choices! Do you find a life land better than a scry land?
There sure is a lot of tapped lands, though. But I suppose there aren't many 1-drop creatures. I guess the idea is that you will usually put down a tapped land on turn one, and then a basic land on turn two? At least a tapped land will only delay you a turn at most. Getting mana screwed is much worse.
