Cavern of souls

Asked by unbendingsea 2 years ago

I know you must name a creature type with it. So artifact won't work, but this is the first time I have used vehicles. Can you name vehicle as the chosen type since you can crew it or is it just another type of card.

You cannot. Vehicle is an Artifact subtype, not a Creature subtype, so you can't name Vehicle with Cavern of Souls.

In the same way, despite Food being a subtype for Gingerbrute, Food itself is not a creature type and thus can not be named. Similarly, you can name Dryad, but not Forest

While artifact creatures could be targeted since they are creatures, vehicles only behave like creatures when they are crewed, but are never actually creatures themselves in any circumstance. Lore wise, if your vehicle were a ship like Weatherlight, it would just be sitting there in port. When Jhoira, Weatherlight Captain crews it, it's like she's climbing on board and piloting it. So, while it can attack and do damage, it's only because Jhoira is at the controls. When she is not crewing it it's just a pile of metal, wood, and magic.

Whenever Vehicles are crewed, they become creatures for the rest of the turn. They still don't have any creature types, but they are artifact creatures and can be affected by anything that affects creatures until the end of the turn, when they revert to being noncreature artifacts. If you really want to, you can even have a crewed Vehicle crew another Vehicle.

Polaris That's interesting, I didn't know that! That certainly makes less sense conceptually, but probably makes sense in terms of game mechanics since they then could be targeted with creature removal. Then again, conceptually the crew would probably be in bad shape if the vehicle were destroyed, and this way whatever is crewing the vehicle is unaffected by its fate, so that also makes more sense in terms of game mechanics. Thanks for the correction!
