What happen's when I activate Goblin Charbelcher with no lands left?

Asked by Gudmund 11 years ago

Goblin Charbelcher is activated with no lands left in my library (after a Mana Severance , for example. Does the ability resolve when I can't reveal cards anymore? I wouldn't think I'd lose due to draw since I'm revealing, not drawing, but I also don't think the ability would just fizzle.... I've never encountered this situation before but I'm curious how to handle this. Thanks in advance

You will reveal your entire library and stop at the last card. Then, since it doesn't say "if you reveal a land," it deals damage for each card revealed. Revealing a land isn't part of the requirement for the damage dealt.

It does say "reveal cards...until you reveal a land card" I think the land card is a requirement. I say no damage is dealt.

And you then get to stack your whole library. Interesting. Are you thinking of using the Mana Severance on yourself, for that purpose?

Well it would be a really nice use of Mana Severance , regardless of whether or not it deals damage. I just hope it does :P I'm disappointed that the judge errata on Gatherer didn't address this

Sorry vic it will deal damage. Goblin Charbelcher started its own deck type. The idea of this deck is to have no or very very few land cards in it. This is because the revealing of a land is only one of the things that can stop the revealing of cards for the Goblin Charbelcher . No matter if a land card is revealed or not, damage will be dealt equal to the number of cards you did reveal. You do stop when you get to the bottom of your deck, and, no, you don't draw cards or make yourself lose from milling somehow.

As Vesperia47 says, it does not matter if you reveal land or not. it will still deal damage. The land part is a stop action, but reaching the end of library is a stop action too.

Also, ...Put the revealed cards on the bottom of your library in any order. Your whole library is revealed so you put it on the bottom of the 0 cards left. Meaning, stack your deck however you want so if they're not dead from this, do it again next turn or just draw whatever cards you need.

There's a storm-like deck in Legacy that plays 1 land and uses Goblin Charbelcher as the win-condition. Here's a Vintage version of it.
