Protection from enchantments

Asked by noahbellboa 9 years ago

Azorius First-Wing has "protection from enchantments".

does this mean that he cant have enchantments played onto him? or does this mean he takes no damage from enchantment/enchanted creatures

No. Auras cannot be played on a creature with protection from enchantments.

"Protection from so and so" means it cannot be:

Damaged by

Enchanted/Equipped by

Blocked by

Targeted by

Using the DEBT mnemonic always helps to remember what protection means.

If you attack with Azorius First-Wing and an opponent block with a creature that has an aura attached, that aura has nothing to do with First-Wing's protection, because it is attached to the blocking creature. In that scenario, yes your First-Wing would take damage as normal.

What has been said above is correct. From Gatherer:

  • "Protection from enchantments" means that Azorius First-Wing can't be enchanted, it can't be targeted by Aura spells or by abilities of enchantments, all damage that would be dealt to it by enchantments is prevented, and it can't be blocked by creatures that are also enchantments.

  • Azorius First-Wing doesn't have protection from creatures that are enchanted.
