Parnesse: Multiple Instances of Copies

Asked by TehGrief 4 months ago

Parnesse, the Subtle Brush's ability is worded as: "Whenever you copy a spell, target opponent may also copy that spell... etc.",

In the case that multiple instances of copying are happening, such as Zevlor, Elturel Exile: "... for each opponent... copy that spell", does this mean that if I cast a spell, then copied it for each opponent, Parnesse would trigger for each copy?

When I read these two I think it sounds like you'd get a separate copy of the spell for each opponent, and each would have to be resolved separately (3 simultaneous instances of 1 copy each put on the stack), meaning I think Parnesse should trigger again for each copy, meaning you'd get your 3 copies from Zevlor and could then share 3 copies with Parnesse.

What about something like Storm King's Thunder?

It is one source of copying, but does Parnesse see each copy as a different instance of "Whenever you copy a spell"? If 'X' was 3 (one for each opponent), could I then offer a copy to each opponent?

Parnesse should see each copy made as a separate instance, Parnesse cares about each time you create a copy, and multiple individual copies should get their own trigger. IIRC the ability would say "whenever 1 or more copies", or even say 'once per turn', as is it sounds similar to Bident of Thassa, as opposed to Grazilaxx, Illithid Scholar. Bident can draw for each instance, but Grazilaxx can only ever draw one card, regardless of how many creatures got through.
