Nighthowler in the graveyard checking stats?
Asked by harrydemon117 10 years ago
If Nighthowler is in the graveyard, does it still have power and toughness equal to the # of creatures in the graveyard? And does it include itself when it's checked?

Oh because it says +x/+x and it's not a creature right? If it was something like Nightmare then it would have > 0 P/T yes?

Nightmare specifically has p/t > 0 when it's in the graveyard or anywhere for that matter.
7/1/2013 The ability that defines Nightmares power and toughness works everywhere, not just on the battlefield.

Right. If Nighthowler was worded the same it would work the way I thought. thanks for clarifying guys!

This is a case of a regular static ability vs a characteristic defining ability. Nighthowler has a power and toughness (0/0), while Nightmare 's are defined by its ability.
604.3. Some static abilities are characteristic-defining abilities. A characteristic-defining ability conveys information about an object's characteristics that would normally be found elsewhere on that object (such as in its mana cost, type line, or power/toughness box). Characteristic-defining abilities function in all zones. They also function outside the game.

No. Nighthowler 's power and toughness are 0/0 everywhere but the battlefield, where the bonus applies.
