Mairsil, the Pretender and gaining effects which required a card to sacrifice itself

So this card just got announced:

How would his effect work with for e.g. Voyager Staff (a combo that immediately came to mind)? Would you not be able to use it because you can't actually pay the cost?

When a card refers to itself by name it means "the card this ability is on". So you could activate abilities that require a sacrifice, but you would sacrifice Mairsil to activate them.
