Heartless Hidetsugu 2HG

I will play EDH two headed giant with my friends, and i found Heartless Hidetsugu a pretty strong commander, but i dont know exactly how it works

I do googled before, and i get 3 different answers:

a) it will kill any team with even life total

b) if the life total of a team is 40, it will deal 20 damage to one player and 10 to the other, making the team lose 30 life points

c) the total damage will be equal half of the team's life total

Which one is correct?

The first answer is the correct one. Heartless Hidetsugu will use the team's life total to calculate the amount of damage to be dealt to each player, so the team ends up taking 2x whatever that number was.

The third answer was true under a much older version of the rules, but hasn't been for many years. The second answer is completely bizarre.
