Festering March and Anowon, the Ruin Sage

Asked by oshen 12 years ago

I have 2 Festering Marchs suspended with 1 time counter left and I have Anowon on the field. My friend has a 2/2 zombie token and a 9/7 zombie on his field. At my upkeep can he sacrifice his 2/2 or does it die before he gets the chance?

When multiple triggered abilities have triggered since the last time a player has received priority, they are all put onto the stack in APNAP order. If one player controls multiple abilities, that player decides the order in which his or her abilities are stacked.

If you choose to stack the suspend abilities of both Festering March es on top of the ability of Anowon, the Ruin Sage , you will end up casting each Festering March before resolving Anowon, the Ruin Sage 's ability. As a result, your opponent's 2/2 token will die before he has the chance to sacrifice it.

If you stack the abilities in any other way, the 2/2 will survive, and your opponent may choose to sacrifice it.

Festering March

Anowon, the Ruin Sage

In this scenario you would get to choose in which order your abilities goes on the stacks. If there were extra triggered ability that would trigger at your upkeep yours would be at the bottom of the list.

But in this scenario you could choose to put Anowon, the Ruin Sage 's ability first then your 2 Festering March s so that when the stack resolve he won't have his 2/2 on the field.

Thanks guys. With your answers I now have to ammend my question. He also had Call to the Grave in play. How do all of the abilities play out? Can he make me sacrifice my Anowon, the Ruin Sage before he has to sacrifice?

Since it is your turn, your abilities go onto the stack first. Then, your opponent's ability goes onto the stack. Call to the Grave 's triggered ability will cause you to sacrifice a non-Zombie creature of your choice. If your only option is Anowon, the Ruin Sage , then you must sacrifice that creature.

However, once on the stack, abilities exist independently of their sources. Even if Anowon, the Ruin Sage dies or otherwise leaves the battlefield, his ability will still resolve. Your opponent will still be required to sacrifice a non-Vampire creature if possible.
