Equipping Kytheon, Hero of Akros  Flip

Asked by scotchtapedsleeves 6 years ago

I was wondering if the equipment equipped on Kytheon, Hero of Akros  Flip would stay equipped onto Gideon, Battle-Forged once it transformed? Also, if I were to equip Gideon once he's transformed and his 0 ability is activated, then would the equipment stay equipped when he loses the creature property? Or would it be unequipped because he's no longer a creature?

301.5. Some artifacts have the subtype Equipment. An Equipment can be attached to a creature. It cant legally be attached to an object that isnt a creature.

301.5c An Equipment thats also a creature cant equip a creature. An Equipment that loses the subtype Equipment cant equip a creature. An Equipment cant equip itself. An Equipment that equips an illegal or nonexistent permanent becomes unattached from that permanent but remains on the battlefield. (This is a state-based action. See rule 704.) An Equipment cant equip more than one creature. If a spell or ability would cause an Equipment to equip more than one creature, the Equipments controller chooses which creature it equips.

Kytheon  Flip and the other "flip-walkers" do not transform while on the battlefield. As his rules text indicates "exile Kytheon, then return him to the battlefield transformed". Since he leaves the battlefield and then returns, he counts as a completely separate object, and any equipment you had attached to Kytheon will not be attached to Gideon at all.

Similarly, while you can equip Gideon while he's in "creature form", as soon as he stops being a creature any equipment on him will become unattached.

Tyrant-Thanatos Thanks for the help! I realized that I forgot the line on Kytheon last night, and I was going to change it this morning but you commented! Alright, so Gideon can't stay equipped, thanks!
