Does Rescue from the Underworld work when I sacrifice a manifest creature?

Will I get my creature back if I sacrifice it but it was a manifested instant/sorcery? It says it returns the cards back to play but I'm not sure how that would work.

No. If an instant or sorcery would enter the battlefield, it doesn't. Only permanents can exist on the battlefield.

304.4. Instants cant enter the battlefield. If an instant would enter the battlefield, it remains in its previous zone instead.

307.4. Sorceries cant enter the battlefield. If a sorcery would enter the battlefield, it remains in its previous zone instead.
