Does Madness work at Instant Speed?

Asked by Isopod 8 years ago

I'm running two From Under the Floorboards in my Standard Zombie deck, but the card is a sorcery. Does Madness allow me to cast it at Instant Speed?

Yes. You may play a madness card for its madness cost any time it is discarded.

This second response is for a more comprehensive explanation of the rules for madness.

Madness is a keyword denoting a card with 2 specific triggered abilities.

The first triggered ability says whenever this card is discarded, exile it instead of putting it into your graveyard.

The second triggered ability says when it is exiled due to the first triggered ability you may cast that spell for its madness cost.

Note that the first ability for madness is not a triggered ability. It is a static ability that functions while the card with madness is in the player's hand.

The second ability is a triggered ability that functions when the first static ability is applied.

Note that you can only cast From Under the Floorboards at instant speed as long as you can discard a card of your hand at instant speed as wel, for example with a card such as Wild Mongrel.
