Detention sphere in multiplayer.

Asked by Banwar 9 years ago

OK. This might seem like a silly question, but what happens to my Detention Sphere in this situation?

In a multiplayer game I exile an opponent's permanent with the sphere and then reduce his life to 0 HP. After the exiled permanent has ceased to exist, does the sphere just sit on the battlefield doing nothing, or does it go to my graveyard? What happens to it?

It does nothing. A player leaving the game only directly affects the cards that player owns. There's no reason why your Detention Sphere would be destroyed, or otherwise put into the graveyard. It would just sit on the battlefield.

It sits on the battlefield, although it might not necessarily be doing nothing. If another opponent also had a card that shared a name with the card you targeted, that permanent would remain exiled. On the flipside, if the dying player was the one that controlled the Sphere, it would leave the game when he does and any cards exiled by it would return to play.

Also, as you are playing WUx you might also have Venser, the Sojourner , as he can bounce your permanents and return them to play, you could target something else with the Detention Sphere

This is not different from exiling a token with Detention Sphere (or any other permanent for that matter). The token will never return and is removed from the game (not in exile anymore) the next time state based actions are checked. In those situations too the permanent doing the exiling will just remain on the battlefield with nothing to do.
