Dead-Iron Sledge vs first strike

Hi,
I was thinking about dead-iron sledge and how it reads, am I correct in assuming that a 1/1 creature with Dead-Iron Sledge blocking a 50/50 first strike creature would mean both be destroyed due to dead-iron sledge even though the 1/1 didn't do any combat damage to the 50/50?

Yes. Dead-Iron Sledge 's ability triggers during the declare blockers step, before combat damage ever happens. Both creatures will be destroyed during the declare blockers step, and neither will deal damage.
