Copying an X mana cost card

Asked by -Orvos- 8 years ago

When copying a spell with an X in its cost with something like Cloven Casting is the X counted as 0 or whatever the X cost was paid for the original?

Neither.

When you cast a spell for a cost that involves , you declare the X value as one of the first steps in the casting process. Later on, you calculate the spell's cost based on the value you declared for X. X is not based on what you pay; it's the other way around.

When you copy a spell, you copy all decisions made for it. This includes, among other things, the value chosen for X.

so if X was chosen to be 5 the copied spell would also get 5 for its X value correct? Just getting clarification.
