Bloodthirst and purphros

Asked by nfcnorth 9 years ago

Say I have Purphoros, God of the Forge in play and I cast a dude with bloodthirst (such as Blood Ogre ) how does this interaction work? Will the bloodthirst trigger's conditions be met if the trigger from Purphoros is the first damage done on the turn I am casting the ogre?

First, bloodthirst isn't a triggered ability. It doesn't trigger. It's a static ability that defines a replacement effect.

Because bloodthirst is a replacement effect, your opponent needs to have been dealt damage before the creature enters the battlefield. Abilities that would deal damage when a creature enters the battlefield are irrelevant to bloodthirst.

Thanks for the info and I was kind of hoping this wasn't the case but this was the answer I was expecting.
