That's an amusing typo.

As an additional note, all users should look into user trade histories. Check trade vouches, see the responses on their walls/binders, etc. If they have traded successfully with reputable users or are themselves reputable users, they are more likely to be genuine.

ALWAYS WORK OUT THE DETAILS IN EMAILS. This keeps your shipping info private and also ensures that both parties know exactly what's going on.

maybe change the last bit cuz that dude got blocked a short while ago for screwing people? i would say delete it to make people are more cautious of trades really, if they read that it may lull people into false security

It's just general advice; under the vast majority of circumstances it holds up quite well. The most important thing is using your judgment and reason - if a trade or a user seems off, try to confront them (civilly) and work out a solution. If that fails, just say that you are no longer willing to trade. It will happen sometimes, but listening to a gut feeling that something seems wrong will at least keep your cards in your possession.

OMG typo. :P

I almost feel like Epochalyptik should be the trade admin. The man knows his stuff.

March 21, 2012 10:07 a.m.

squire1 says... #8

But there is no trade admin and to have trade admin is not a great idea because it implies responsibility on the part of us.

Epochalyptik says... #9

Adviser or mentor might be more suitable if anything. Something informal and non-regulatory to keep T/O distanced.

squire1 : I didn't think about the details, just saying things blindly because I know Epochalyptik knows his stuff.

Perhaps a "best practices" article to online trading would be perfect from Epoch.

He indeed does know his stuff, as do you in your realm. And we appreciate all that both of you do.

I've wanted to trade on here to get a few things but I've always been weary. I don't really know how many trades go on and actually work out well

i can vouch for this site as an excellent trade base and that isnt even the primary point of it! i had been on here only a month or so when i started trading and it is great especially when you see someone with many vouches from others who are also vouched for. you will be fine getting trades with people who trade alot like myself, Epochalyptik, Miasma, buky92, DukeNicky etc etc that is to name but a few people i have traded with, we all sent at the same time showing trust and it all paid off now i feel part of the community and can trust many members of the site completely. i think you should get your binder up and start trading with the highly vouched people to start with and you will be very happy :-)

Miasma says... #14

Also, assuming you have a reputation for being trustworthy, don't be afraid to ask the other party to send first. This is obviously harder to do if you are new to the experience though, as you would have little to no proof of legitimacy. In that case, I would recommend to trade with proven and respectable members of the site to build your own reputation. Either way, be aware of who you are trading with and proof that they are trustworthy. I may have dodged a bullet myself recently, by following this practice.

I have long been considering making trading upgrade only and this is pushing me more in that direction.

March 21, 2012 1:39 p.m.

Miasma says... #16

That would unfortunatly cut me out though. :(

Don't get me wrong. I'm not saying i wouldn't want to contribute. I myself just doesn't have the means of electronic payment. I'm sure there may be scenarios similar to mine.

March 21, 2012 1:43 p.m.

So only upgraded members would have access to the trade forum and the ability to create binders?

March 21, 2012 1:44 p.m.

yeaGO says... #18

That's weird Miasma--why no paypal? you've been around here a while I figured you were upgraded. I could make a snailmail service available.

something like that, epoch. however, I'd want to build around it some premium features (i had already planned some i just haven't gotten around to it).

March 21, 2012 1:57 p.m.

2austin5 says... #19

Yea, I'm in the same boat as Miasma. I just don't like electronic payments so I only deal with cash.

March 21, 2012 1:59 p.m.

Dismay says... #20

I, like austin and Miasma, would feel like I got the short end of the trading stick. I do really hope to contribute money to this site in the future, but it isn't monetarily plausible right now. If a decision is to be made, can it hold off for a bit?

Of all the trades that I've done on here, I've only ever had one incident that went sour. I mean the bets thing to do is always be extremely careful and trade only what you can lose. Its very rare that I will trade a ton of valuable cards with someone I've never traded with. There are certain trade vouches that I look for. Normally if a person is vouched for by a person that I have traded with I'll be more willing to trade.

March 21, 2012 8:05 p.m.

what should i be looking for to be sure that i dont get scammed?

@Internet_the_Explorer READ THE GUIDELINES and you'll find out.

March 21, 2012 8:46 p.m.

sorry man, didnt mean to be any trouble

March 21, 2012 9:07 p.m.

squire1 says... #25

no trouble. Honestly, trade with people who you see have a prolific trade history and that others seem to trust. Other than that, use common sense.

March 21, 2012 9:20 p.m.

ok, sounds good... ill set up a binder this weekand

March 21, 2012 9:23 p.m.

Dismay says... #27

I didn't mean to sound so harsh. Caps lock... O.o

March 22, 2012 2:31 a.m.

its all good man, no worries, just figuring out whats what around this wonderful site.

March 22, 2012 2:32 a.m.

Clarque says... #29

Every trade I've made has been a success. The only issues I've had were with shipping. In the first trade I made, the envelope the cards came in was damaged, and the Postal Service had to put it in a "we're sorry" envelope. But that's nothing something that you can blame on the traders themselves.

Like Epochalyptik said, just look at the trade histories and make sure the person you're trading with isn't trying to screw you.

And above all... USE COMMON SENSE. Always.
