Multiverse ID conflict when updating cards

I discovered the issue when attempting to update Driven / Despair . I noticed in my deck that it's showing up as 7 CMC (obviously should be 2 CMC). It appears that the issue might be how the mana cost was entered, but in any case, when I tried to save the new mana cost, the blank Multiverse ID field was flagged as required. Fine. Copied that in and tried to save again. THIS time I got an error stating that Driven already had that ID. Upon further investigation, the other side — Despair also had that ID.

So questions:

  1. How did the full card, Driven / Despair , get saved in the first place without an ID? Why can't I now re-save it without an ID?
  2. If two cards can't share the same ID, then how did both Driven and Despair get successfully added? Since they share an ID, why can't I now add the same ID to a third card?

I'd like to understand how it all works in the background so that I can successfully fix cards in the future.

((As a side issue, how can we fix the incorrect CMC?))

I honestly do not think a split card should have each individual side entered in our database. It causes too many issues.

Fixing the incorrect cmc means making all splits cards have double slashes instead of single in all their entry forms, but yeago has some comment feature (typically in coding commenting out something means using double slashes) somewhere on the site that breaks double slashes in cards so ... it's up to him to fix that. I don't know where the comment feature is though so I have no insight on its effectiveness and whether or not it should be removed for an easy fix to split cards.

I agree. I honestly don't see the benefit of having them listed separately. You never add them to decks or view them as individual cards. They don't even register a TCG price — only the full card name does!

Ah, oK. That's what I was assuming, since that's the very directive given by the form field.

Or maybe the casting cost field could just be parsed differently? Keep the commenting feature but design another way to notate split card costs.
