Altered Cards forum?

TappedOut forum

With the New Card Alter Feature, wouldn't it be nice to have a forum to show off our best card alters? There could be requests for proxy art and stuff like that too.

What do you think?

(I'm aware that there's a Custom Card forum, but that's for cards that don't actually exist, while the Altered Cards forum would be for cards that do exist but have different art.)

i think this type of idea would be better served by an alter hub, kinda like the deck builder homepage.

I think prior to even thinking about a separate forum for discussing alters, proxies, etc., you should first take a look at the altered card art forums on MTGS, as they seem to have had multiple dealings with WoTC regarding those very topics, and some strict rules may need to enforced. Just a friendly suggestion.

"There are some strict guidelines that need to be held to in order to minimize MTGS' liability here, as we are working with copyrighted material.

First, please take notice of Wizard of the Coast's policy on proxies & counterfeiting:Wizard of the Coast's Policy Regarding Proxies and Counterfeits

ProxiesProxies are substitute cards created solely by judges in sanctioned tournaments pursuant to the official tournament rules. These substitutes are allowed when authorized game cards become unplayable during a sanctioned tournament because of damage or excessive wear. Proxies do not include any graphical reproduction of their intended substitutes.

CounterfeitsCounterfeits are copies or reproductions of actual Wizards trading cards, whether or not they are identified as non-genuine. The creation and distribution of counterfeits violate United States and international copyright laws and negatively affects the integrity of Wizards trading card games. Counterfeits are strictly prohibited, even for personal, non-commercial use.As the renders here can potentially be used by unscrupulous parties to create what WotC defines to be counterfeits, we insist users to abide by these rules:

This thread is for high-quality work, please leave basic (eg. crude microsoft paint) work aside. All renders must be hosted off-site. Non-compliant posts will be moderated & the render removed.Renders may not be exact or near reproductions of actual WotC product.NO discussion of printing or proxying techniques. This thread is concerned only with the manipulation of digital imagery. The staff of MTGS does not condone counterfeiting & will not have the community put at risk over this.Proper artist credit must be given, in line with the Artwork Artist Credit rules.Renders must display the standard WotC copyright as found on official product, in line with the Artwork copyright rules.Renders must display the text NOT FOR SALE, preferably below the copyright line.Posts will be moderated for content in line with the Artwork forum spam rules.Users of this thread are expected to report violations of these rules. Contributing to the thread while failing to report ongoing transgressions that put this site at risk may result in moderation of the active users."

There's some more in that vein in that 'Artwork' forum. Just something to keep in mind, as I'm sure the wrath of WoTC is sort of like the wrath of Gozer, but less marshmallowy and more lawsuity.

I can handle most of what can be considered of the alters forum. Keep in mind that our alter system holds only 2 purposes. The first one is for people to sell alters, and the second one (which is more popular) is to spice up their decks.

We will not get any lawsuits from WotC AngryBearTony, as an alter is not a counterfeit. However our rules and guidelines for what alters are accepted here are pretty much the exact same rules and guidelines for what is accepted in rl, just with limitations. However, I'm pretty sure I'm the only that actually follows these guidelines, as the users of this site have a large reputation to completely ignore these sort of things.

If you want more information, go to the site updates.

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for a place for people to showcase their alters or how to make them or even offer their services. But the discussion of proxies or renders makes me cautious. However, good to know the site is capable hands with this sort of thing from yeaGO and Femme_Fatale. :)
