Hello all, Before I get into the meat of this post Ill be explaining myself. I guess im writing to vent some of my frustration, and to help alleviate some depression. As of last Friday I in all my infinite stupidity managed to loose most of my MTG collection. Now im not talking it was stolen, more to the fact that I set the bag they were in and simply left it there and forgot it even existed until it was too late. And now obviously im extremely upset about this, but What does one do about a loss this large? To put it simply I lost several EDH decks, my entire dice bag, rare binder, and playmat. I have a small hope that maybe someone will be kind enough to return them to me, but im so damned depressed and upset that it makes it hard to even think about playing MTG again. I thank you all whove taken the time to listen to me rant, and gripe about my mistakes and I hope that nothing like this happens to you.

That's awful!

Did you happen to write your name/address/phone nunber anywhere in the binder or deck boxes?

If you have better than normal insurance (or just insurance for your cards), you should contact your insurance provider.

Unfortunately, I dont have either of those things. Ive never considered Insuring my stuff because honestly there were never any cards that totaled more than $30. Course ive amassed a collection that may have warranted such an action. And secondly, ive never considered putting my information with my cards simply because Ive rarely let the bag out of my sight. course it doesnt help when i just plain forget that it exists...

Try contacting the location you left it? somebody might have turned it in as lost?

Also maybe contact the local game stores in the area because if it was stolen, the stores would be on the lookout for it.

Most local games stores you play at have surveillance cameras ask the owner if you can review the cameras and see who picked it up. My lgs has had it happen in the past most people that play there are known and the lgs can ask politely for them to return your property. Most people will have a change of heart and return the items when they learn who it belongs too. We've had 3 incidents and 2/3 ppl got their stuff back. The third just put his deck box in the wrong pocket of his bag lol do not give up hope. I lost 3 rare binders and 10 decks to cats who mistook a laundry basket for a litter box so I feel your pain.

I hope I've got my bases covered with the local lg's I've contacted enough to make a two county radius. I've also made a report to the police to be on the lookout for it. So now I guess it's a matter of hope and luck.

Bro I feel that so hard. One time I lost the entirety of my collection when some homeless junkie broke into my car while I was at work. Bastard took my prescription, my USB sticks, gold dollars I had in the cupholder and my backpack.

I was utterly devastated and deleted all my mtg bookmarks off my phone and deigned never to play it again. I called every game store in the city of Pittsburgh and asked them to keep a lookout. Also filed a police report and also had the dude on camera.

Unfortunately I never really heard from anyone about my collection turning up ever again. It made me depressed and furious for a few weeks, I promised myself I'd fucking stab that dude if I ever saw him again; but it didn't make anything better. Lucky for me some people I played with (whom I barely knew) and my LGS owner helped me start a new collection all over again with some donations and with a small investment of like 150$ I was able to get back on my feet again.

It really opened my eyes to what MTG is really about, having good games with great people and most of all having fun with the game. It sucks getting burned like that but I sincerely believe everything happens for a reason. I really hope you get your collection back man, and I'm not even religious but I'll say a prayer for you tonight. Best of luck!

Maybe give it a break for awhile, wait until an expansion really resonates with you, and construct a new deck that was like nothing you had before. I used to have some cards when I was in my preteens in the 90's that have $400 dollar price tags now, I sold them in my transition to high-school (before I could have predicted that MTG wouldn't just be a future POGS). I have looked past that with some time, and a couple of constructions like nothing before... It sort of brings some of that "new to the community" wonder back to your game - but again that requires some time away & not reading articles & generally staying away.... Then you can recapture that wonder. Difficult to get past; but I prescribe a period of grieving/distance from the game, self-imposed cluelessness, then come back and make something wondrous and new.

Hey all! Just thought I'd let you know my bag with all my cards has made its way back to me! To say I'm ecstatic is an understatement, thanks to everyone who offered there thoughts and prayers!

Honestly, the dude who found it the day I lost it came back to the card shop (he didn't know the operating hours which is why it took this long) and asked to see if anyone lost their collection.
