i know you dont put your basic lands into the cube mix. but do you put cards like steam vents into the cube mix? also when it comes to cube and drafting, can you bring any lands you want or can you only bring basic lands? ive been looking for a straight answer to these 2 questions and i thank all of you in advance. i just want to make sure im setting things up right.

I mean it's basically up to you, but I think the convention is to include non-basics in the cube, and then after the draft people can use however many basic lands from outside the draft as they need -- so like a normal draft.

I remember seeing a rad wasteland themed cube where you couldn't bring in basics and had to actively draft lands, that was cool.

The first question has to do with cube design. You're welcome to include nonbasic lands in your cube, but it's your choice.

As for the actual rules-related fraction of this question, players in a Limited environment may add any number of basic lands to their card pools. Anything other than a basic land must come from the card pool itself.

That said, cubing is a social format, and you're free to change the rules within your playgroup to create a more enjoyable experience.

If you want to keep the power level of your cube fairly high, include a good mix of dual and/or utility lands. That way the participants will be able to more consistently create higher-power multicolor decks.

If you want to keep the cube more tame, limit the mana fixing available so that participants will have fewer over-the-top options.

In our 540 card cube, we have 40 lands. They're pretty generic... Off the top of my head, we have the Shard & Wedge taplands, all 10 guildgates, and all 5 Vivid lands for our land cycles. I <3 cycles in Limited
