Proxy Generator

I didn't find a satisfactory proxy generator online, so I wrote one. As it originally was just for me, it uses the statistical software R. R is published under the GNU license, so you don't have to pay for it if you absolutely want to use the generator.

The script downloads the images from the cards specified in a deck list from magiccards.info and puts them in a pdf.

Download from my DropBox.

Have fun (and maybe give feedback...)!

Why don't you just use Magic Set Editor? It's free and it can create literally anything you could want. You can also create proxies. Also, it should be noted that the SCG image is the right size for printing proxies.

I use MSE when I create some silly artworks. What I wanted was a pdf with proxies for deck testing. Everything I found online printed the proxies too small and creating every card I want to use in MSE seems just a little too much work.

This way, I got what I wanted and got practice in R (nothing to do with statistics but still...)

Does it only save the first 60 cards into the pdf? I'm trying to make a cube for casual play and it did not save all the cards to the pdf.

I think this is a pretty cool idea, would have helped me a couple of times in the past.

This is the first one that comes up for me. http://magic.bluebones.net/proxies/ and it seems to print them the right size.

4 cards in a row is not the right size, at least not for A4 paper (Germany), don't know about foreign paper formats.

You can get 3 cards in a row and 3 cards in a column (9 cards in total) on an A4 paper.

@hyperlocke That sounds awesome! So does it sweep the site you linked and get all the data directly from it, converting text appropriately using regular expressions?

@Ohthenoises I also used MSE for the few proxies I made. It allows me to put in aspecial PROXY set symbol that I designed myself, I already had it available, and since I only used it for a few cards and it exported them to images already, I didn't find it very tricky to simply resize those images. If I had to do this for more than a few cards, though, it would become a pain!

Even a simple script to resize images would be extremely useful for what I would use proxies for. On the other hand, I have kind of moved away from using proxies. It is a pain on so many levels to switch them out of sleeves and transport the originals for verification. So many of my cards have gone up in value since I was running a few proxies! I think that it is fine if someone has a few proxies in a deck but if the number of proxies exceeds a certain threshold - its time for a new solution. In my case, I decided to simply not lend out decks with valuable cards at all and to run a few loaner decks on the side instead.

@r3v13w: No, the script searches the source text of the search query for the image url, downloads the image and pastes it in a pdf.

Yeah, if I play a deck regularly, I buy the cards or trade for them. But if I want to test a new deck or changes to an existing one, I use proxies for cards I don't own. If I'm satisfied with the deck, I get the real cards.

http://www.andyrut.com/proxies/ this is my new favourite. You can change the edition of any card you make on it, and you can alter the size. I generally use 98%
