I know this will make me sound like a MtG hipster, but...

I LIKED RAKSHASA DEATHDEALER BEFORE HE WAS COOL!

Hipsters are usually more aloof or condescending with their opinions. You seem more aggressive, in a "I told you he was good!" way.

I'm also a little pouty. Like "No one believed me. Hmph." Wounded, I suppose. That would be how I'd categorize my emotions involving the rush to get him and the price jump. I was playing him in Sultai with hexproof threats before PT. Now all it will be is Abzan aggro everywhere. Sad.

Who ever doubted the playability of that card in standard was just a little brain silly. Have some +2 pump, ehh?

PT Champ said it is under powered in his article today. I think it's okay not great. Has some match ups where it will shine but is generally a detriment to your tempo and gets outclassed easily.

There's a lot of exile in standard. Just saying.

I like it as a midrange sideboard option, to become more aggressive.

You think so? He chumps, he removes, he swings big and sticks around. I've had so many players block him with a Mantis Rider, and then slap themselves in the face when they totally forgot I had an Urborg out, and then snicker as I tap an Island (but as a swamp) and an Elvish Mystic to pump him. With the fact that I have Bow of Nylea in my deck, he's guaranteed removal EVERY time. I think he's great, just not an aggro card, which is unfortunate, because that's the context everyone's seen him in.

I don't think others failing makes a card good...

I feel that way too. I put together a BG deck the day he was spoiled. He's awesome.

Exile wasted on him is just exile wasted. He's such a fantastic card. If you need him big, he can be big, otherwise you can just swing in with him small. He's not a waste or a hit to tempo - he's the hero you need, when you need him and at other times just fine.

I feel he has less upside than Lotleth Troll personally, which didn't see serious competitive play. I guess standard has a use for him now though.

I was playing Jeskai Tempo before it was cool. Now people think I just hopped on the bandwagon.

Time to spin up some old vinyls and grow a beard.
