Deck Help forum

Hey I'm new here and completely new to mtg. I own no cards, have never played at all, and i don't know anyone who plays. I'm probably just going to play with my wife and maybe friend so I'll need enough for at least 2 people to play. So how should I start? I've seen the 1000+ cards on ebay for like 15 bucks, is that worth it? Or should I buy them some other way?

I found duel decks and Intro packs to be a good learning tool when I was a new player. You could try the Magic Duels game as another option, it goes slow and gets you into it before you start with a bunch of random cards.

The new set is coming out right away, so I'd look into the Planeswalker decks they're releasing too, you get the meet the characters Nissa and Chandra and they should be about equal in power level, making the best experience possible for you if your friend and wife haven't played before either.

I agree with MindAblaze, the Planeswalker decks look to be an excellent way to start out playing MTG. Also, the Duels of the Planewsalkers apps for are a great way to learn the rules.

For the card lots like that Look at the reviews for it. You can also get them from channel fire ball. But if you only need two decks you could get a set of duel decks for $20

Yeah, the above advice sounds great. When you feel like taking your game to the next level, you could buy a deck builder's toolkit and start making decks out of that pool of cards. A big part of magic is building your own creation, so that might be something you'll enjoy somewhere down the line. Alternatively, you could check out your neighborhood shop's Friday Night Magic event and ask attendees for advice. Most players will help you out and they might even give you some cards for free (bad cards or ones they have in excess).

I think there's a local game shop but idk if it stays open very late, it's in the mall. I guess I'd have to check with them and see. Idk if anyone else is near the b/cs texas area as well. Thanks for the advice guys I'll look into that plane walkers set.

Also, what's the typical lower age range for mtg? My daughter is almost 8 and not sure if I could get her into it, but if I end up liking it I'd love to further her nerd training.

So I see the Nissa vs. Ob nixilus but not with Chandra is that the same? And will i need any other supplies besides cards, like dice or something?

So you want a D20 (or 4 D6 or so) for life. At prereleases, stores gove away special D20s which are spin down life counters (numbers printed consecuivly kn them as opposed to normal) which are great. Then D6s for counters/tokens etc.

Beyond that sleeving decks makes them easier to shuffle snd sturdier. Ultra pro go to shit after like 2 tournaments but are generally fine for casual. Deck boxes are also nice for keeping cards togther.

Intro decks are a special product where you get two fully built decks themed around something with a foil alt art card (planeswalkers or your boss creature), a couple of rares and chase cards (like the much needed Remand reprint) and the rest of the cards are a mix of modern, legacy and standard to have a fun thematic deck.

Planeswalker decks are the new intro deck and are standard legal for tournament purposes. You get a special overcosted planeswalker, 2 rare spells that cost 1 less than the walker and tutor for it, 3 uncommons that are buffed by the walker and then another rare, in a 2 coloured 60 card deck. It alsp gives you two boosters.

Basically intro decks are for new players who are intrested in FNM a little more. Duel decks are for casual players in general who want prebuilt fun decks.

Sorry. Typing on phone made me fuck up. Duel decks in the 3rd paragraph. Not intro decks.

a d20 is a dice with 20 sides (that's your life total) or 4x d6s (4 dices with 6 sides).

You just need that to count your life.
