Goyf has another brother (TAKE 2)

Custom Cards forum

This card was carefully designed to be annoying.

The first ability makes it very resistant early, when your opponent has, for example, six cards in hand, making this an 0/7 and very anti-bolt.

The second ability makes is more vulnerable but more powerful later in the game, where neither of you have many cards in hand and it has less of a chance of eating a kill spell, but also making it a large threat (6/2, 7/2).

So how do you guys like it? What could make it better (or worse)?

Thanks for looking!!

Sorry, a 1/7 there in the description.

I think It should start out as as a 1/0 So it would be like the opposite of Tarmogoyf in a way

Other then that love the design and the art

VampireArmy Haha it's goyf man, not some ugly zombie :)

March 4, 2015 10:14 p.m.

PutridLeech Hmm, that would be a nice twist... But that would mean that all your opponent has to do to get rid of it is have no cards in his hand, which happens late in the game, when you need this guy... But I'm going to toy with that idea, sounds fun!

If your opponent has no card in hand and you do aren't you already winning

March 4, 2015 10:17 p.m.

Fair point. But you're probably winning because you have this guy out. It's like a free kill spell.

Make it red. Red needs this. Also the name is very similar to the card Terravore which is also a lhurgoyf.

I think this would be black, having to deal with hand size and all, but either way I would play it in modern.

Sorry but Goyfs interact with graveyards. So flavourwise this doesn't really fit.

Playable in burn

Very mixed opinions :)

Anyways, derKochXXL, being fairly new to older MTG cards, I did not realize that. Probably going to change it, but I love the art...

jandrobard Did not realize that. I guess I was sort of going in the direction of "Terror-Goyf", and the name came from that. I'll change it though.

So I should make it red? I guess that could work, I'll try that out.

And DERPLINGSUPREME, of course it's very good and probably broken :) That was the intention.

FAMOUSWATERMELON There actually is a black Lhurgoyf. Also, this is a neat idea, but it pretty much dies to hellbent decks.

March 5, 2015 7:41 a.m.

True. Every creature has a weakness. Though Hellbent decks aren't extremely common, I would think...

Anyways, here's the new card.

Had to change the art to make sense, along with the name and type, but the idea is still there.

*number of cards. An amount is for things you can't count, a number is things you can count.

EridanWwins Apologies, I'm not the best worder here. What do you think of the card?

VampireArmy I'm looking forward to an artifact Lhurgoyf. Because reasons.

I'm looking for anything modern to match goyf so I can justify refusing to play Jund or Abzan but that's another discussion entirely. I like this card a lot. Too bad WOTC are too scared to print it.

March 5, 2015 6:09 p.m.

VampireArmy Haha that's normal. I mean, look at the reactions to the new Narset. Now imagine that times 10.
