Will there Ever be a Football-Themed Equivalent of Space Jam?

This past year was the twentieth anniversary of Space Jam, a film that I still very much enjoy, so I am wondering about the legacy that it has left.

For years, now, there have been rumors of a sequel to the film, with Lebron James as the name most frequently mentioned for being the central character of the film, but I believe that it would be better to have the film focus on another sport, because, although basketball is still popular, it is no longer as hugely popular as it was during the 1990's. Now, football (American football, to be precise) is arguably the most popular sport in the United States, so I believe that a football-themed equivalent of Space Jam would be a great idea, perhaps with Tom Brady, Rob Gronkowski, or one of the Manning brothers as the main character.

What does everyone else say about this? Will there ever be a football-themed equivalent of Space Jam?

The thing about why we havent gotten a sequel yet is that the movie basically tanked at the box office. Most of it's popularity and sales came from VHS/ DVD sales after release.

Kcin, that is very similar to The Iron Giant, another film (also from Warner Bros., by coincidence) that performed poorly while it was in theaters, but sold very well on home video. I currently own both that film and Space Jam on blu-ray, and they thankfully were very inexpensive.

So while the first movie tanked in theaters but succeeded in the home sales side, the sequel is still possible, just highly unlikely due to the age of the first one and the fact it flopped in theaters. Still, dont give up hope... it may happen one day, just not anytime soon.
