Any flautists here?

I learnt the flute when I was younger, and always said that I would get a piccolo one day.

That day has arrived, and I'm receiving a piccolo for my birthday.

I've never played flute in a marching band or orchestra, but I have played in some musicals, and improvised in a jazz group.

How about you, flautists. Do you still play?

What kinds of groups have you played in?

If you wish to discuss other instruments, please go and start a different topic. I'm only interested in discussing flutes with other players.

I was not a flautist, but I played trombone in school and most certainly blew into my mute to imitate flute noises. Trombones are so versatile.... Toss in a trumpet mouthpiece and it is forced into a higher key for a trompet. Take off the slide and insert the end into a tuba to make a trombuba. Have a bassoon mouthpiece? Tromboon.

A trombone is not a flute.
