First FNM —March 2, 2018

Took the deck to its first FNM. Got paired up with a lot of interesting decks.

Round 1: Big Red v.s. BR Aggro (zombies) - WIN G1: The opposite aggro deck was stuck on lands for a long while. Was able to constantly remove threats that were in reach of Lightning Strike and Abrade, as well as Sweltering Suns. Was able to accumulate enough value on my side of the board, Glorybringer took the game. G2: Lost here, got flooded with lands, where the opponent had enough removal to destroy smaller drops and Phoenixes. Felt particulary bad to lose, because I got flooded with

Round 2: Big Red v.s. GR aggro - WIN G1: Very exciting match, as both me and my opponent were playing a lot of great creatures, with removal swinging all around the table. I was in a losing position, until I was able to drop multiple Treasure Maps. Was able to scry my way through the top of the deck at least two times per EoT. Even scry'd on my turn before drawing a couple of times, leading to my victory. Glorybringer took the match. G2: Opponent was able to drop a very large Verduous Gearhulk, which I was able to take out before it got too hairy, long live Abrade! Was able to drop Etali, which let me take a Rhonas from the top of the opponent's deck. Sweet sweet value.

Round 3: Big Red v.s. Merfolk - LOSS G1 and G2 were very much the same. I got screwed on my lands, drawing colorless land after another, leaving my unable to play my Treasure guys. The opponent was in all of these cases able to stabilize the board in his favor. Opponent's deck got out of control fast, overwhelming me with Merfolk.

Round 4: Big Red v.s. Nayasaurs - LOSS G1: Very much in my favor, as the opponent wasn't able to draw lands. Nothing much to say here, I took this one. G2: Opponent was able to come back here, as he dropped larger dinosaurs, out of reach of the removal I had boarded in. Got trampled by huge dino's. G3: Same as G2, only difference here being me getting screwed again by the colorless lands. Lost the round, but had a lot of fun being eaten by large dinobois.

Conclusion: The deck is doing what it's supposed to do, and in a very splendid manner, if there are red sources on the field. Getting screwed by colorless lands is devastating, which leads me to taking out the playset of Deserts and inserting 4 x Mountain instead, maybe making room for a third Field of Ruin.

Chandra, Torch of Defiance seems like an auto include. Turn 4 six drops. Have you tested this yet? Would like to know.

RedMan929 Hey Man, haven't had the chance to test it as of yet, as all the cards keep coming in via mail. I'm missing a few cards here and there. The Chandra suggestion seems good, but I'm wondering where to fit it in the 60... Any suggestions on cuts? I'm thinking of a 1-of or 2-of.

Next friday I'll be able to test this, perhaps 1 Chandra can be in there by then.

Atroxreaper Man that looks like a sweet Red deck as well! Seems very aggressive. Glorious End seems really fun to use, how's it been working for you?

Wow seems like it came just in time. I might perhaps add it to the deck, although I'm unsure how good it is in this particular shell. Might not have the right spread of pressure, or perhaps it does when the big boys are on the field..
