First off, this belongs in the rules Q&A up at the top of the page.

Second, Yes this would render the combo moot. Since a DFC can't transform multiple times if the transform condition is met multiple times, Civilized Scholar + Illusionist's Bracers would cause you to loot twice, but if you discarded a creature you would be stuck with the transformed side and not the Civilized Scholar side.
