My cousin introduced me to this wonderful game when Fourth Edition was being released, back in the 90s. I stopped playing for a while after Mercadian Masques and have only kind of gotten back into it, in the sense that I don't really buy packs anymore, I just do singles.

My decks typically have two objectives. The first is to take an idea and express it by spending as little money as possible: rarely do I commit to a card that costs more than $1, unless it's key to the strategy. (This has led to me occasionally doing alternate brews which are distinctly not budgetary.) The second is to create something that's fun to play against. You may lose, you may win, but my hope is that you will enjoy the experience either way, because the decks do relatively silly things.

In my mild-mannered, non-Magic-obsessed alter ego, I sing, write stories, write music, pet cats, and play Heroes of the Storm with my wife. And I am now working on some super-simple mono-color decks, and eventually simple guild decks, because we are about to bring a member of the next generation of planeswalkers into the world.

Just FYI, this deck's proper format is Casual, not Standard.

Have you considered Immaculate Magistrate? That plus Joraga Warcaller alone will give your opponents nightmares.

Finally, why Westvale Abbey? It's a cool card, but I don't see why it fits into the deck. (And the answer can be, "It doesn't, it's just a cool card," but then you gotta say that. =) )

@Balaam__, @johnmilt, my hunch on the failing mana base is simple: you don't have enough of it. 20 lands... And 8 of them are fetches! Even counting your manadorks, you only have 18 mana sources in the whole deck! I'm not an expert deckbuilder by any means -- can't afford to be one -- but if you're trying to flicker creatures repeatedly, you need mana, and to me, this situation just sticks out like a sore thumb.

I like this, but I'm a bit concerned about the fact that you don't really have a board presence until Turn 3. Even in Pioneer, that's enough thumb-twiddling to lose a game. Any thought about adding something you can do on Turns 1 and 2?

I don't quite grasp the interaction between Aerith, Cauldron and Ballista. Could you clarify?
