I'm glad Tsukimi! We have to cultivate the culture & interactions we would like to experience in our digital communities. Setting boundaries with friends can be tough, but will help you avoid that social and brewing burn out.

Yeah, new Vraska looks like she could be pretty fun! I feel like I'm typically most on the same page for brewing with you and KBK7101 lol.

I started brewing Vraska in the past week or so (along with Taii Wakeen, Perfect Shot, Laughing Jasper Flint, Olivia, Opulent Outlaw, and Felix Five-Boots lol). The deck is still kinda rough as I zero in on different ratios for ramp and removal. I've been goldfishing with 3 other tabs open to different friends' decks to get a better idea for some of that pacing. The deck name is in light of some of the more recent Vraska & Jace lore: Petrified by the Gorgussy. Might change that name lol.

Crow_Umbra Literally just made my day, thank you for this. I realized that I was doing both of those, trying to make a deck work when I didn't love the play style and building for everyone else a bit too much. I love that we're always on the same wavelengths because Vraska was the most exciting commander I saw come out of thunder junction and it looks like a weird build opportunity, which I always love. Let me know when your deck is up!

Figured I'd leave my sappy message here. Just wanted to say thank you for the kind words, I deeply appreciate it. You are definitely one of my favorite folks to interact with here. I appreciate and enjoy the positivity and enthusiasm you have in all of your interactions, as well as how you approach your deck building.

I used to share a similar feeling as you, where I'd play decks I didn't truly enjoy longer than I needed to. "Surely this time I will enjoy it. I didn't enjoy it last time because X, Y, Z." Honestly, it's better to take decks apart & build up a collection to then repurpose stuff to decks they'll be better suited for.

What you do for your playgroup sounds kinda similar to what my best friend used to do for our group when we all first started playing. He still kinda does it for family and friends that he's trying to get into the game. At some point he kindly told us that we need to build our own stuff, but he would be happy to act as a soundboard.

I enjoy helping people, much like you and like my best friend. The tough thing can be knowing when and how to draw some boundaries to protect our own time and energy. As much as it can help to take a break from brewing, it can also help to take some of the brewing load off of yourself, and letting your friends brew their own stuff now. Tip the scales on them and don't hold back on them, they can handle it now lol.

If you're looking for something kinda funky and out of your typical range, I've started brewing Vraska, the Silencer, mostly since I haven't built a Golgari deck yet. Her design is pretty interesting, & opens up some exploration with Golgari spell slinging and Crime committing synergy.

Tip of Tripnah

Legendary Artifact - Equipment

Equip

Whenever the equipped creature attacks, if it is not attacking a player, it gains unblockable and +2/+0 until end of turn.

: Sacrifice three permanents, exile equipped creature and all equpiment attached to it. At the beginning of the next end step, return that card to the battlefield under its owner’s control. If you do, return the other cards exiled this way to the battlefield under their owners’ control attached to that creature.

"It's easy to pass without trace when you don't leave any"

Create a card that creates some kind of enchantment token like food, clue, tresure, etc.

Imiz, Flamekin Sharpshooter

Legendary Creature - Elemental Warlock

Haste

Whenever a source you controls deals noncombat damage to a player, you may copy target instant or sorcery spell and choose new targets for the copy.

: Deal 1 damage to each opponent.

2/4

"Lorwyn was a little to sleepy for my tastes, but Thunder Junction will suit me just fine for now."

Create a card that make one kind of creature a sea monster in addition to its other types. (Sea Monster is Serpent, octopus, leviathan, kraken)

Ishpal, Friend to the Wilds

Legendary Creature - Merfolk Mutant Druid

Whenever a land is destroyed, create a 5/5 Green Wurm token with Trample.

: Destroy target nonbasic land. It's controller searches their library for a basic land card and puts it onto the battlefield tapped.

Sacrifice a land: Return target creature to it's owner's hand.

3/3

"The Gruul lack information and long term plans. I lack neither, and I will see the wilds return to Ravnica. One building at a time if I must."

Bant Wurm Tribal and Land Destruction! This guy actually came out more fun than expected. The idea is he was originally a high ranking member of the Simic, but they lost sight of their original goal: to balance nature and an ever growing city. Instead the Simic became weak and succumbed to outside pressure and instead began to experiment on themselves instead. Ishpal remembers when the Simic were founded, and he remembers why they were founded. He leaves the combine and begins to expand Selesnya's wild territory- but he's not stopping there.

Create a card that depicts goings on or key figures on one of your favorite planes (either of which can be made up, doesn't have to be canon)

Agar, the Ever Bountiful

Legendary Creature - Rabbit Wizard

Whenever you put a +1 +1 counter on a creature you control, target opponent draws a card.

Whenever an opponent draws a card, target creature you control with a counter on it gains your choice of hexproof or indestructible until end of turn.

If you would put a +1 +1 counter on a creature you control, you may put that counter on a creature an opponent controls instead.

Whenever you place a counter on a creature an opponent controls, draw two cards.

2/7

I am really sick of bant commanders only ever getting boring themes like group hug and +1 +1 counters (like in the bloomburrow deck unfortunately) SO design a new theme and commander for the bloomburrow bant deck

Orvar, Speaker of Worlds

Legendary Creature - Elemental Shapeshifter

Whenever you cast a spell that targets a creature you control, create a 1/1 Elemental Shapeshifter token that is a copy of target creature you control.

Leyline creatures you control have flying.

3/4

"It's just one person they said. What could they possibly do?' -Last words, Herezm Consulate General"

More leyline creature fun or wildcard!

Kclemniseil, Colony Arisen

Legendary Creature- Ooze Wizard

Affinity for Oozes

Whenever you cast an instant or Sorcery spell, create a copy of target creature you control except it is an Ooze in addition to its other types.

4/6

Create a card that focuses on Leyline Creatures (Oozes, Elementals, and Angels) kinda like Outlaws from thunder juntion.

seshiro_of_the_orochi Red and black are my least favorite colors - but I am realizing I am too used to seeing it that way and honestly Neheb looks like a lot of fun.

I think you, legendofa, FormOverFunction, Niko9 and the eternally wonderful Crow_Umbra hit the nail on the head - even after taking time away I started to enjoy deckbuilding less and less and I think it's in large part because I hang on to decks too long that aren't fun to play. Happens more than I'd like that I spend a lot of time carefully and thoughtfully building, only to play and realize.... Dis not fun. So I'm going to focus even more on fun and building and let older decks fall by the wayside.

I'm lucky to have an excellent playgroup and none of us are playing CEDH or using sol ring etc, so I don't need to worry about that, I agree it's a stifling way to deck build.

Also Legend I have always loved/followed your Xantcha group hug deck from the sidelines and not just because she's one of my favorite mtg characters but because I just love seeing people push the boundaries of MTG themes and archetypes. I like building odd things - if you have any more commander suggestions I am all ears.

Lastly, I realized one reason I stopped having fun is because I basically manage most of the decks in our playgroups. So I've built my friends really powerful decks since they were newer to the game, and now they still have those decks and all of mine are way powered down. So now that we've been playing more it might be time to tip the scales back both ways, and I think that will help a lot.

Honestly this is gonna sound cheesy (deal with it) but I have realized my favorite thing about deckbuilding aside from the rush of multiple carefully curated lists is sharing stuff on here and talking w y'all about it, seeing what you build and getting inspired. (:

Hey y'all thank you so much for this amazing response! I posted this and then life got wonky so I haven't had time to respond but I have to say even just reading all of this has given me some great inspiration! I really love this community and being able to talk w y'all here on Tappedout. I'm gonna be responding to individual peeps today :3
