I've played this a couple of times, and it's performed well (I've more time to tinker with my decks than play these days, though). I don't remember being clogged down with the X spells, but it may have been luck of the drawn. But I do like their versatility where I can cast them for X<4 just to whittle down the board while keeping my commanders alive or go for the big X to close out the game.
Speaking of, that's the closer, I cast Blasphemous Act and its ilk to reflect damage to my opponents. Which is also a reason I want a good density of board sweepers by damage: if they're not winning the game, they are keeping my opponents' boards in control.
I did see Exploding Barrel but didn't think of it in the context of this deck. It might be good enough to justify a 3-mana rock. Adding it for consideration.

Said on No, you!...
#1The source of the damage doesn't matter, just before the damage is dealt (so for spells and abilities, before it resolves), you activate the redirection as many times as you want and it creates these replacement effect 'shields'. And then when the damage would be dealt, you as the controller of the affected permanent choose the order of the replacements to apply. You can find a more comprehensive set of rulings for the en-kors for example here: https://mtg.fandom.com/wiki/En-Kor_ability
