I'm a newer player, so I'm very interested to hear people's thoughts on this. I have almost no idea how to gauge my own deck's power level

Kind of a jank combo, but Zuran Orb with World Shaper could be fun in this deck. On the end step before your turn, sac all your lands to Zuran's Orb, gaining 2 life and doing 1 damage to your opponents each time, then sac World Shaper to bring them all back to either do it again, or to untap them during your upkeep.

As long as we're talking about Faceless Butcher if you have Dual Nature on the board when you cast him, and you stack the triggers right, you can pretty much exile all your opponents creatures and/or blink all of your creatures that have ETB effects. Putting that into a Glissa, the Traitor deck I'm working on :)

Man, that mutate section was such a bait and switch haha I love a good mutate deck, especially an unconventional one. I get that the mechanic doesn't quite work for your game plan though

Balaam__ aaaaah. I was wondering about that as well. Maybe that's what happened.

How quickly/often does the competitive scale meter update? I swapped out a card in my deck Things That Are Not and it dropped the competitive rate from 70% - 66%... so I returned the deck to its former state and the competitive rate hasn't changed back. It had been nearly 48hrs since the last change to the deck. What gives?

I see you have Patriarch's Bidding in here. Living Death might be worth an inclusion. Works as a board wipe for your opponents creatures. Sure, it gets rid of your 1/1 insects, but theoretically the creatures in your yard are far more valuable.

I'm not sure I agree that Shanna's wording is either less eloquent or more clumsy. If anything Well of Lost Dreams' text saying "where X is less than or equal to the amount of life you gained" is just a (slightly) longer way to say "X can't be greater than the amount of life you gained..." I think Shanna's wording is actually clearer because it's more concise.

The main difference, aside from the one previously mentioned about the end step, is that Shanna's wording reads more prohibitively. Well of Lost Dreams is telling you what X can be, Shanna is telling you what it CAN'T be.

What about Sadistic Sacrament? That can cause some serious disruption to opponent's plans

Hey! Cool deck. I've got a Nethroi deck I'm tweaking at the moment so I love to see what other people are doing with it.

Minor thing: you seem to have put this deck in the wrong format. I'm guessing this was a commander deck, but it's listed for Standard haha

Any particular play line you like to run? I'll probably check out your video when I have a little more time

That's totally fair! It's a very powerful card, so I can see how that outweighs skipping a trigger for Sheoldred

Necropotence has some anti-synergy with your deck/commander. Feels like a Demonic Tutor would work better. With necropotence, you're skipping your draw step and then spending life to "put cards in your hand" which doesn't trigger Sheoldred's ability. If you instead tutored for lich's mastery, you would essentially draw out your library (and therefore any other card you would need) during your next draw step. So you could then cast Thought Vessel and whatever other cards you need to win the game.

I think Sanguine Bond (even without Exquisite Blood for the infinite combo) would synergize well with your Commander's trigger and close out some games more quickly.

September 11, 2022 11:46 p.m.

Dang, I'm glad I've been following this deck haha Necrologia is a fantastic pair with the new Sheoldred. Where did you stumble across that one?

September 10, 2022 12:57 a.m.

I'm trying to build a super budget black devotion deck with Gary and some Sanguine Bond / Vito, Thorn of Dusk Rose effects. Throwing in a few blue instants/sorceries for card draw and control. I've got a DMU draft night coming up with some friends at the end of the month, so if I pull some cool cards (braids, Sheoldred, or Liliana) it might become a little less budget.

All of my builds up to now have been EDH, but I'd like to get a decent Pioneer deck going for nights when I don't have 2 hours for a single game haha

I play-tested a deck I'm trying to build against this and, damn. This thing can be VERY fast. Nice work keeping the CMC so low. Playing Tenacious Underdog for its blitz cost and then sac'ing it to Village Rites is a great way to draw three cards and deal three damage.

Right on! Yeah, I pulled Defiler of Flesh in the DMU pre-release and was really excited... until I realized his "pay 2 life" ability, can only be used once per permanent, whereas K'rrik lets you pay life for any black symbol of any black spell. I was looking at Bloodthirsty Aerialist in mine as well. I'll see where the budget is when I get a rough draft assembled and see if I can swing to get K'rrik. Definitely someone who will go in eventually, just not sure if he'll make the initial build.
