Which effect applies first, hanna's Custody or Planar Cleansing?

Asked by SoulCalibur 11 years ago

Alright, I am working on an artifact deck. If I have Hanna's Custody in play, would my artifacts be destroyed after playing Planar Cleansing ?

Yes. Planar Cleansing doesn't target. Shroud or hexproof never stop anything if it doesn't say target

Hanna's Custody just creates an effect which is always in force. So in a question of 'which applies first' between it in play, and something cast, the answer is always Hanna's Custody.

But Planar Cleansing doesn't target, so the ability granted by Hanna's Custody does nothing.

Artifacts will still die, because Planar Cleansing doesn't target anything. If Planar Cleansing read something along the lines of 'destroy target nonland permanent" the spell would fizzle because Hanna's Custody gives them shroud.

These are all correct.

Shroud and Hexproof don't do anything unless an ability says"target", because Shroud is "~ can't be he target of spells or abilities," and Hexproof is "~ can't be the target of spells or abilities your opponents control." Since Planar Cleansing doesn't actually target anything, neither Shroud nor Hexproof would be of any use.
