When is a creature considered "on the battlefield"

Grave Pact has to do with things moving from the battlefield to the graveyard. If a creature spell is countered and the card is sent to the graveyard before it resolves, has it ever actually entered the battlefield in the first place?

No. A creature only enters the battlefield if it resolves as a spell or is put there directly by another effect. Countering a creature spell sends it directly from the stack to the graveyard.
