what is devotion to something

i noticed in theros that their is a new ability on cards that read "devotion", what is that

Devotion is explained in the reminder text on those cards. Your devotion to a color is equal to the number of that color's mana symbols in the mana costs of permanents you control.

"Mana Symbol" was meant to be in brackets... Let me give an example from Thassa, God of the Sea to be more clear.
"As long as your devotion to blue is less than five, Thassa isn't a creature. (Each U in the mana costs of permanents you control counts toward your devotion to blue.)"

Trust me, if whatever you got and selected as the "accepted answer" in your previous thread was wrong then it would have started an argument and you would have been given the truly correct answer.

Read the reminder text. It quite clearly says:
Each Mana Symbol in the mana costs of permanents you control counts toward your devotion to blue.
