What happens when i Dredge a Gaea's blessing
Asked by ztyL 13 years ago
Want to build a dredge deck and use Gaea's Blessing to prevent a "self-mill" situation.
But if i use the Dredge 3 on the Shambling Shell - and one of the "dredged" cards is card:Gaea's Blessing, do i get to return Shambling Shell to my hand before i have to shuffle my graveyard into my library or does card:Gaea's Blessing resolve first?
Hope i make myself clear enough :)

First, we need to understand the correct language of what's going on here. Dredge is a static ability that gives you a replacement effect: "Instead of drawing, put N cards into your graveyard and put this card in your hand instead."
Second, card:Gaea's Blessing creates a triggered ability. Since it says "When Gaea's Blessing..." on the card, it will do nothing until that condition is met. When that condition is met, the trigger will wait for you to finish performing whatever action you're doing, and then you put it on the stack and both players get to respond before it resolves.
In the end, if you dredged with Shambling Shell and hit a Gaea's Blessing, the Shambling Shell will go to your hand before the Gaea's Blessing trigger even goes on the stack. Then, Gaea's Blessing will resolve, but Shambling Shell is already in your hand and safe.
