What happens to the equipment if the creature is killed in response

Asked by Fizzz 11 years ago

Hello,

I have a Loxodon Punisher creature that I want to equip 3 artifacts to. I tap 6 mana to equip it all to the dude, but then someone casts a terror on i in response to me equipping the dude.

Would it be correct to say that he would not get the +2 benefits, nor the benefits of the artifacts? And the mana would be spent, and the lands tapped?

First of all. equip can only be used at sorcery speed. Therefore, you can't try and put 3 equip activations onto the stack in successoion. You need to activate one, pass priority, resolve if priority gets passed back to you. The same goes for the next two equips you want to perform.

Anyway, if a creature gets removed in response to activating equip, the equipment simply says where it was before. The bonuses Loxodon Punisher gets depend on whether any of the quip activations successfully resolved before your opponent removed it. Also, the mana that you use to pay for equip is lost. However, when you use your quips in succession as you should, you will never tap mana for all three equips at once. You will tapp mana for the first one, see how it goes, then tap mana for the second equip and so on.

"Therefore, you can't try and put 3 equip activations onto the stack in successoion." - this is misleading, now that I read it. I meant to say that you can't activate equip when the stack is not empty, so you can never have three equips on the stack at once, unless you have Leonin Shikari or something like that.

This is amazing! Priority has always confused me.

No problem. If you need help understanding priority or stack, just say so. Sorry for rather high amount of typos in my answer. I should really proofread what I write. This is disgusting.
