What happens to creatures I've stolen from graveyard when I die?

Asked by PanOtter 1 year ago

For example, someone uses Captain N'ghathrod to take someone's creature after they've milled. The Captain player is knocked out of the game - where do the stolen creatures go? Do they go to their owners graveyard or are they exiled? This has probably been asked but I was having a hard time finding it. I know after a "gain control of target" has those cards go back to the equivalent zones.

This rule deals with when a player leaves the game:

800.4a "When a player leaves the game, all objects (see rule 109) owned by that player leave the game and any effects which give that player control of any objects or players end. Then, if that player controlled any objects on the stack not represented by cards, those objects cease to exist. Then, if there are any objects still controlled by that player, those objects are exiled. ..."

When N'ghathrod player dies all of their cards leave the game (After all, they probably want to take their cards home with them). Their tokens disappear, and their effects end.

Now they still have a pile of cards in front of them that they don't own, in this case because they yoinked them. The bolded part of rule 800.4a says that all these cards get exiled.

TL;DR They get exiled
