What happens if my commader is exiled from the graveyard?

Asked by DodgeNDive 11 years ago

So if my commander is destroyed, I have the option to place him in the library or the graveyard.

Say in this case I choose to place him in the graveyard.

Next, I use Varolz, the Scar-Striped 's ability to scavenge my commander.

Scavenge says "exile a crearure card from your graveyard..."

The question is: will my commander actually get exiled or will I have the option to place him into the command zone instead?

Sorry if this is a silly question, I am quite new to EDH.

Correction: if my commander is destroyed, I have the option to place him in the COMMAND ZONE or graveyard.

Any time your commander card would go to your graveyard or the exile zone for any reason, you can choose to move it to the command zone instead.

For the purposes of Varolz, the Scar-Striped and similar cards, the cost of the ability still counts as being paid and you'll get the appropriate amount of +1/+1 counters on something.
