Wharf Infiltrator ability trigger on only players? Or planeswalkers too?

I have a standard deck that uses Wharf Infiltrator. One of his abilities allows me to draw and discard when dealing combat damage to a player. Does this apply to planeswalkers too?

I thought it did, but my friend said otherwise when I hit his planeswalker with it in our last game.

Please help!

A planeswalker is not a player, so the ability won't trigger.
