Using Deflecting Palm as a defense against multiple creatures
Asked by tophunter85 9 years ago
My husband and I were nearing the end of a game and we weren't sure how the final damage would be dealt. I had 10 life left and was using Deflecting Palm to counter an 8/8, dealing 8 damage to him. He had 5 life left, a planeswalker with 5 loyalty counters, a 5/5, 2 3/3 and a 2/2 in addition to the 8/8. How would this game end? Am I done before I can even play Deflecting Palm? Thanks for the help

You cast deflecting palm before the combat damage step (last chance would be the declare blockers step, after blockers are declared).
Palm will prevent the 8 damage from the 8/8, and deal it to your opponent. You will take 13 damage from the other creatures. The game checks to see what needs to be done, right after combat damage, and sees both of you at 0 or less. The game is a draw since you both lose.
