Tricking Vigilance and Tap abilities.

Asked by Sophelios 11 years ago

So, I'm putting together a sliver deck, and I have one that gives them Vigilance, and another that lets them tap for mana. What happens if, after attackers and blockers are declared, I tap the blocked slivers?

You would be able to tap the slivers for mana in that case. They are not removed from combat, and will still receive and deal damage. Something like Reconnaissance could remove them from combat; abilities that remove them from combat will explicitly say so.

However, note that whatever mana you get from them tapping at that time will only be useful during the combat phase, as it will be emptied from your mana pool before the second main phase.

@nobu_the_bard: Mana empties from mana pools at the end of steps and phases. It may not even last until the end of the combat phase.

Ok, thanks, guys. Wanted to make sure I had that cleared up before finishing the deck.
